Cameras and carnivals

A book, edited by my lovely friend and super talented academic Jayne White, dropped through the letterbox this morning. I had completely forgotten about the chapter I'd written in it because it feels like a life time ago. So much has happened between then and now. We no longer live in Bath; I no longer work in a university as a Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood; my daughter is 10 and, of course; 'it which shall not be named', has changed the course of the world for ever. Reading through the chapter has been a nice reminder that life often highlights connections between things we'd yet to notice. This is one such connection because I had completely forgotten that the title of my chapter in this book was 'Cameras and carnivals...'. I now see even bigger parallels with my academic research adventures and in photography/ never-waning interest in Bakhtin, carnivals and dialogism than ever before. I hesitate to say that it feels 'meant'. Today, it feels as if there is some form of direction and purpose in what I'm doing photograph-wise. Tomorrow may be totally different but, for now at least, I'm going to enjoy the moment!
